For many of us, reducing food waste is important, and the great news is, saving bananas that seem to be over ripe or going a little brown is really easy to do! If you have a few “mature” Chiquita bananas (brown or with brown spots), they can actually be the start of something really wonderful… Here are seven delicious recipes to turn those (over) ripe bananas into mouth-watering treats.

Freeze ‘Em!

Easiest way to save your “mature”bananas is to freeze them. Overripe bananas can be used in hundreds of banana recipes and will keep perfectly in the freezer. Peel them, cut them into chunks and pop them into a freezer bag. When they’re frozen, bananas are an excellent addition to healthy smoothies or even delicious ice cream recipes  like our sweet chocolate almond butter banana ice cream.

Leftover Vegan Chiquita Banana Bread Cookies

For easy vegan snacks, try these fun tasty cookies. You’ll need just two ripe bananas, almond butter and flour, flax seeds and a dash of cinnamon. Mix the ingredients together until you get a dough, cut into rounds, and bake for 10  minutes. Voila!

Sugar-Free Chocolate Chiquita Banana Mousse

Decadent and sugar free! For this fluffy treat, you’ll need a ripe banana, a ripe avocado, almond milk, maple syrup or honey, unsweetened cocoa powder, and a sprinkling of ground pistachio nuts and plump raspberries – sounds too good to be true!

Vegan Banana Oatmeal With Honey, Walnuts and Cinnamon

This comforting vegan oatmeal recipe gives a distinctive twist to a firm family favorite.  Simply combine a ripe banana with rolled oats, almond milk, dates, raisins (or cranberries), pecans and sesame seeds, and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. A satisfying meal on it’s own and 100% vegan!
